Scott Andrew Alpaugh has always been fascinated by computers and technology. He started his journey in IT when he was a kid, programming on a Tandy 1000-EX computer that his Mom bought him for Christmas. He learned BASIC and wrote simple games and applications on the 8-bit machine. He also enjoyed playing games on a Commodore 64 that his uncle gave him. He was amazed by the graphics and sound of the C64 and spent hours exploring different genres and titles. Scott's passion for IT grew as he got older and he pursued a career in software development. He now works as a senior engineer at a leading tech company, where he uses his skills and experience to create innovative solutions for various clients.
Alpaugh's theory of learning is based on the idea that your lifetime learning is analogous to a tree. Your core disciplines are the trunk, however you can use related topics to study and grow branches off the trunk and finish your career with a complete tree of knowledge.
This metaphor is similar to the one used by the French philosopher René Descartes in his work Principles of Philosophy, where he described knowledge as a tree with metaphysics as its roots, physics as its trunk, and all other sciences as its branches. Alpaugh's theory differs from Descartes' in that it allows for more flexibility and diversity in choosing your core disciplines and related topics.
According to Alpaugh's theory, learning is not a linear process but a dynamic and organic one. You can explore different areas of interest and connect them to your core disciplines through logical reasoning and evidence. You can also branch out into new fields that may not seem directly related to your core disciplines but may offer new insights or perspectives. By doing so, you can enrich your knowledge base and develop a deeper understanding of yourself and the world.
Alpaugh's theory also implies that learning is never complete. There is always more to discover and learn, as long as you are curious and open-minded. You can always grow new branches or extend existing ones by seeking new information or challenging existing assumptions. You can also prune or revise your branches if you find errors or inconsistencies in your knowledge. The goal of learning is not to reach a final destination but to enjoy the journey of exploration and growth.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the blog and are able to get as much out of it as I do researching and writing it!
Welcome!
